I am not overly familiar with this chain or how it cuts. But is this the way it makes chips? It makes noodles while cross cutting.
It cuts fairly decent.

Looks exactly the same as Oregon Vanguard, Dolmar 496

The Vanguard chains I use don't make noodles bucking oak and beech.
I think it might depend on the wood species.

Nice 262. Sounds good. I prefer an 18” on mine, but that one seems to handle the 24” with plenty of chain speed and power.

I was cutting some Maple in the video. It was the crotch of a tree.

I don't think so. I cut a few different pieces. It just cuts noodles. I will try and take the rakers down 1 swipe at a time and test in between.
Trial and error. Lol

Hickory chips. Maple tends to produce more “noodles” (longer chips but not quite noodles like from ripping logs) with the same filed chain. Where your cutting the tree also can affect grain... crotch, stump wood etc. it changes grain directions. 32BAE675-C19F-4178-9CD2-62C2E5FA029F.jpeg

Try your chain in a different wood type like oak or something. I’ll bet you’ll get different chips.

Could be caused by the vanguard having more set off the depth gauge.

I have bucked ash last Saturday, I utilized a raker modded Oregon Vanguard chain sharpened with a Archer Fast Filer jig - the chips were up to 1" long while bucking straight grain, they got significantly longer going through knots.
The loop is a little on the aggressive side.

I think the wood species matters a lot.
Bucking Turkey oak generates small chips that break apart, bucking beech will make fingernail sized chips, this ash I am bucking makes noodle like chips - all with the same chain and saw.

I'll see if I can get a tach on it.
