Almost all back together now less piston, top end mocked up. Just need to knock the rust off the muffler and paint it. Got a big bar mocked up to see what it's going to look like. Will most likely be wearing a 32" most of the time. I got my piston and ring set from HLS. Does anyone know who makes these aftermarket pistons?IMG_1953.jpg

That saw might be a lot more crummy than the crummy! But it's a good foundation!

Nice, but the orange plastic brake handle hardly is original on the 133.

Also, how do you know it is a 1980?
well observed, 133 had metal chain brake handle. Unfortantly my chain cover was ruined so I had to use 242 cover.
Serial number is 010715, also coded 1342 and 3899/80.

I assumed something like that, but believe /80 only means that the production batch involved started in 1980. I'm not sure of anything with those numbers though....

If that plastic brake handle was orange to begin with, it likely wasn't original on a 242 either, but rather on a 42.

there was two different digits on those 133, 1341 was 133SE, and 1342 was 133SG. Even the digits point to 1980 it aint certain that it is an 80 model.
The only difference I can see on those two IPL's are tank and wiring difference, mine is the first version. Dunno how long they made those 133SG, and I dont know when they started with normal serial tag either.
40 Practica is a good example, 3400 009354, most would this year 80 week 9, but it's an 1978, they was only made in 78. Magnus who told me.
I belive Magnus have something about those old serial numbers.

You have right about the handle, 42 it is :)

Nice saws Tor,Keep resurrecting them man.
thank you :)
I hope to find something weird in the future that I can build up :)

Yes, I have seen indications that he does, and he does of course have lots of samples to look at!

At some point in the early 1980s they simplified the numbers on the tags, to a variant were the full year was there, followed by a consecutive(?) number (yyyy xxxxxx).
Then, likely some time in 1984 (may have varied by the saw model/brand), they went to the decodable y ww xxxx (on "silver " tags) variant, that has been modified several times, and now is yyyy ww xxxxx (on black tags).

Then there are the TOMOS made saws, that have a different serial number system - and I don't know about the Brazilian made ones.

I don't know either, but the last IPL for the 133 was dated 1981-12, and the first one for the (replacement) 234 was dated 1983-01 - so most likely late 1982 or early 1983....

I think Magnus was searching for an document who would proof what year those 70-early 80's was produced. So far I dont think he have figured it out.
I dont even know if the serial tag my 133sg show correct information either, all I know is that fuel system and wiring proof it was build in first 2 years.

There is another way to figure out when they was made by removing the top end.
You see, all crankshaft are marked when they was made ;) I would say a saw was made inside 6 months from that date, but most likely just a few weeks after the crankshaft is marked. This marking is on flywheel side of the crankshaft.

I checked 3 just now, of course they are 90's, but I think it's quite precise.
42 - 0460473, crankshaft 90 42
254 - 1140293, crankshaft 91 12
262 - 5139183, crankshaft 95 13

I have noticed that as well - I can't prove they all are, but haven't seen a single one that wasn't. ;)

it will probleby never be a perfect hit, but for those who have lost the serial tag, crankshaft serial may be vital information.

Here is another one, 340SG, serial 5031216, crankshaft 85 02
I guess I will pull the jug to the 133 and 40 in a few weeks to see if this is close match to serial's lol
