Have a 576 on the bench for a new top end, Tree service let the 300 pound gorilla service it and he pulled the plug threads right out of the cylinder. Though I would take a chance to document the process. I realize for many of you this is old hat and will be boring but for the newer guys hopefully it will save some frustration.

Step 1: Clean the dang saw!

Pull back on the throttle shaft to release the cable

Slide cable out of holder

Disconnect the kill wire, just slides off

Now disconnect the ground strap

Four bolts hold the carb in, you will need a 4mm Allen, remove them and pop the two tabs out of the rubber vibration dampeners

Full rebuild for putting a spark plug insert in? I'm confused... if just doing a top end ditch the base gasket and thank me later. Loved the 576xp I had.. tree service liked it more than I and now runs it over his MS 440

Top end only, as a dealer I cannot put a thread repair in the jug because I have to guarantee it, so new top end.

I know you are not doing bearings, but if you replace clutch side crank bearing, do you use sleeve retainer? Have replaced a couple on 576's that seem to spin that bearing.

Compress the rings and slide the jug down

Make sure that the pulse line is snapped in

And that the expander ring is in place

Snug the bolts down and then tighten in a X pattern

Slide the carb and filter holder back in as an assembly, make sure that the choke lever is seated in the groove

Reconnect wires and cables

Dust boot in and the job is essentially done

Hope this was informative.

I picked up another 576 last week that needs a new top end as well, is there anything that someone would like covered in more detail?
