I think I know that saw. I may have been the one that put the hex bolt's in the muffler. They look like Yamaha fasteners. Sorry I didn't have the correct ones if it was from my way.
I had a guy trade me a bunch of 562's a year or two ago. I wonder if this is one of them. drf255 on A.S. ended up with all of them.

And the 357xp/359 are both great saws, especially once ported. BUT, I DO love the way y muffler modded 562 runs. the only thing I haven't done, but will, and might do is plug off the de-comp and remove the base gasket. As-is, it runs VERY well. I may get it ported someday, but I might just leave it as-is, once the decomp is replace with a bolt as it's everything I need it to be. It's also nice not having to keep a screw driver w/me, at least when I take the 550xp an 562xp out. Everything else I have is old-tech.

These threads rival the simplicity of a TO (technical order) for working on aircraft in the USAF, which are written so that a person with zero mechanical aptitude can get the job done. Awesome thread as always Joe.
It's been awhile since I've heard a reference to a T.O.... Former B-1b and KC-135R Flying Crew Chief here.

Was it 2015 that the 6 screw cases came out for the 562?

Cannot pull the base gasket on a 562, will be a head slapper.

The other problem is the cylinder extension bottoms out on the crank case. At least thats what I've experienced on the few 562's I've goofed around with

From the sounds of it then, I may just salt away a new complete bottom end and EL 48 and keep them for insurance sake as that saw might be my favorite out of the whole lineup (along with the ported 372).

Thanks Joe. It’s my new favorite unfavorite model of saws to work on. Shoulda looked at this thread first.

I was able to disconnect the fuel line, the two rear grommets and the throttle cable and pull everything back enough to get the jug off. I didn’t have to pull the carb and airbox off the saw. We shall see if it runs.
