Husqvarna 562 Repair Thread

It is really not worth putting bearings in an old bottom end, especially a five screw case, these updated short blocks are the way to go.




Start by placing the flex limiter.


Install the carb floor, leave the one screw for the ground wire out though.

Set the fuel tank in place.


Pull your lines and throttle cable through.


Install the screws into the mount, don't forget about the chain catcher on the PTO side.


Drop your oil pump and lines back in.


Wind in the worm gear and install the screws.

Notice how the case has a nice place for the wires to go so they don't get smashed.


Pull the wires through the case.


Route everything and lay the coil in place.


Push the coil as far to the front as you can and temporarily install the screws.


Fasten the ground down.

Install the piston.


Notice how the base gasket has ears on it.


They are to hold it to the cylinder.

Don't forget to install this grommet.


The partition catches it.


Slide the intake in place and install the four screws.


Ready to install.

The short block is $259.99 as of 01/04/2018. I am fairly certain that there is one for the 550 but will have to verify tomorrow.

Oil the cylinder up and slide it down.


Tighten the screws.


The gasket goes in between the heat shield and the muffler.


Exhaust on.


No factory installed air leak for you!

Install the detent.


It catches on the flag like this.

Grease the bearing and drop it on.


New rim is a good idea since the drum is off anyways.


Drum in place.


New clutch installed, old one the springs were shot and it had a fair amount of wear on the shoes and spider.


Install the bar pad plate.

Plug carb up.


Snap the coupler back into place.


Slide the carb into the boot.


Connect the kill wires to the air horn.

Slide the air horn into place and install the two screws.


Make sure that you get the choke correct, it goes like this.


Reconnect the purge lines.


Also the vent line and throttle cable.

Install the horn for the air injection.


Flywheel on and tightened.


Set the air gap...


Install the air deflector.


And the starter.

Remember the mistake in assembly that I mentioned earlier, here it is. The small plastic guard goes over the bar plate not under it.


New air filter.


Installed.


Top cover and front handle on.


And together.

When I first fired this saw up it ran like crap, bad off idle hesitation, erratic running at high rpm, and absolutely refused to restart when warm. It came to me as a non runner so I didn't know it's history. I tried a reset but no luck, a new EL 48 fixed it right up however.

Great work Joe. $259 for a short block seems like a no brainer, very good info. If you don’t mind; how much does an EL48 cost? I have a couple 562’s on the shelf and they both have the EL46.
