Up until this point most of my threads have been on the older/obsolete saw families. This thread will document the rebuild of a 562 XP specifically but it is pretty much the same for a 555 or a 545/550 (the latter are just smaller, same layout).

On the bench we have a fairly early (2013 serial number) 562, this saw suffered a top end failure due to bad bearings and crank seals.

Let's begin, shall we?

20180103_141633.jpg
Start by releasing the top cover clips.

20180103_141640.jpg
With the cover off I can see a big no no, this black filter is winter only, for use in the snow to help prevent icing. It is 80 micron and will pass fines all day.

20180103_141646.jpg
Filter is held on with a clip.

20180103_141652.jpg
Release it.

20180103_141658.jpg
And the filter lifts off, not too bad.

Five screws hold the front handle on.

20180103_141812.jpg
Three on the side, don't forget about the mount on the cylinder.

20180103_141908.jpg
And two on the bottom.

20180103_141943.jpg
As per usual, the two on the bottom are shorter and you do not want to mix them up.

20180103_142002.jpg
Front handle off.

Starter next, four bolts. Little tip, lift up on the starter and loosen the bolts a little at a time and the screws will stay in the housing.

20180103_142153.jpg
Starter off.

20180103_142205.jpg
Air deflector off.

20180103_142855.jpg
13mm nut...

20180103_143047.jpg
And the flywheel is off.

On to the clutch side for now. It is important to note that this was assembled incorrectly, I will show the proper way on re assembly.

20180103_142224.jpg
Remove this one Phillips head screw.

20180103_142251.jpg
And the plate lifts off.

20180103_142311.jpg
Remove the two pivot bolts.

20180103_142329.jpg
One on each side.

20180103_142403.jpg
And the flag comes off.

Oil pump next...

20180103_142629.jpg
Wind the worm gear out.

20180103_142635.jpg
Two screws hold the pump in.

20180103_142738.jpg
And the pump and the oil line will lift out as an assembly. I separated them here to show that the pickup line and bar pad supply line are one piece on this series.

20180103_142747.jpg
Remember when I said the bar pad plate was wrong, this is what I meant. This deflector is supposed to go over it.

Muffler is held on by four screws.

20180103_143448.jpg
It comes off easy enough.

20180103_143529.jpg
Go ahead and remove the screws from the two A/V mounts.

20180103_143502.jpg
The front one plays double duty because it holds the chain catcher.

20180103_143524.jpg
And don't forget about this flex limiting strap, it just pulls off.

We can start on the electrical system now.

20180103_143237.jpg
Coil is held on with two bolts, pretty standard right?

20180103_143242.jpg
Here is where it gets different, the wiring harness for the AutoTune is held on by this screw.

20180103_143202.jpg
And this air deflector also holds the wiring in place.

Hell Joe....you're making this look easy enough for a Stihl guy to get motivated enough to build his 562....( sitting under the bench next to the 576) .

But for the newbs....how did you know prior to break down it was seals and bearings...

The PTO bearing was gone, you could wiggle the crank around.

Sorry guys, fell asleep, I will post more this evening.

These threads rival the simplicity of a TO (technical order) for working on aircraft in the USAF, which are written so that a person with zero mechanical aptitude can get the job done. Awesome thread as always Joe.

Are Huskys coming shipped with hex head bolts to hold the muffler on now? This guy will need to carry a few extra tools in the field.
They’ve been that way for a while. 3-series saws pretty much got rid of the floating stud with nuts on the muffler.

Looks like they put bolts in there instead of the 6mm screws they have originally. Hopefully they used the right thread pitch.
