might add that "cleaning" w/fiber grinder wheels leaves chit embedded in base metal, contaminating weld.
carbide burrs/die grinder is cleaner. or wire brush...

my rate is $50./hr., btw.

Plus a dedicated stainless steel wire brush. If you brush steel then aluminum or magnesium it will embed microscopic bits of rust and steel into the material.

There are really only two rod alloys readily available. AZ92A and AZ61A, on dirty old cases I can’t really tell the difference.

You set the tig welder on AC with setting similar to welding aluminum. Cleaning and prep is everything.

does pre-heat make a difference ? like with thicker Al ?
