I ran Bill's saw and it is very stout for sure. Once again great work Randy!
Thanks man ...it's a awesome runner for sure , I know it needs time on it ..It was still 4 stroking pretty hard over 15k....not broken in yet ....[emoji2]

I will think that may be likely to leave the mean crankcase pressure too low, but that's just a theory.

The use of the crank stuffers on the 357 may mainly have been to test the concept for later use, not because it was really needed?

I was shooting for a wide Powerband, gaining torque over a 357xp and gaining rpm over a 359 , kinda a hybrid as it is ...[emoji2]

I put a 357XP P&C on a 359 that I rebuilt this past summer, great running saw, the owner said he thought it ran better than it ever did, set it to 13,200 and it was four stroking hard but the saw belongs to a landscaper so it will be run hard and put up wet. They bought it new and used it extensively for 11 years, milling, with 50:1 mix, and a cat muffler, before they finally killed it. I put new bearings and seals in, installed a non cat muffler, and the 357 top end, owner said it just flies through the wood now.

Bumping this up as someone wants to see this thread and can't find it...saw is still a real runner and very dependable.

So I'm bored at work and just read this whole thread. Trying to get my head around these two saws. The 357 will be a faster saw but peaky and the 359 will be a step behind but have a wider powerband? I'm curious as a 359 is in my future!

Pretty much.

359 is 1mm more bore. Minus the crank stuffers.

The 357 c/p on a 359 is a pretty nice combo.

Both saws ported up are pretty nice, but the 357 will tend to be a bit sportier no matter what.

Has anyone paired up the 359 cylinder with the stuffed 357 crank? How’s that combo run?

359 cylinder just runs "lazy" in that it doesn't snap up in RPM.. doesn't like to wind high. It makes a great "farm/ranch saw" as it is reliable, holds tune, and pulls a 20" pretty well. I've run a 359 ported with no stuffers and they can be made to run real well... lots of chips from what I was told.
