Got this saw on trade, pretty clean overall. Oem 359 was pristine, but already purchased a oem 357 cylinder kit.

I have heard the larger case (no stuffers) some mild numbers and a closed quad port would make one heck of a firewood saw.

Cut .030 off the base .045 off the extensions.

Exhaust marked to 103.

You can see how I narrowed the transfer divider, and finished exhaust.

Squared up the intake, along with adding some texture.

Seems intake was really high on this saw, at 75

Transfers set at 120

Jug all sealed. Installed a new walbro 198 carb, didnt really care for the zama.

Hacked up the 359 muffler, didnt have a cat, just full of baffle/tube. 20" 3/8 feels pretty good.

So numbers 75,103,120 .020 squish. Will check comp tomorrow, feels pretty stiff.

Proof of life lol.

Set real rich @ 13,500

Try to find some wood to get some good videos.

First saw I have built in months, felt good to just git er dun...

foresee a few more build threads in the future :)

Nice work Red. :)

My 357 numbers are 102/120/76 and am pretty happy with how it came out. Spins 14.4 ans still 4-strokes. Not as fast as some of these other well experienced fellows are achieving, but I think it will make a darn good work saw. :)

Thank you.

I had thought about taking the ex up higher, but i want a nice broad powerband. Not something 357 are known for. Acts like it will still turn up for 8" gtg fun...

Good job, but I like em better with stuffers. Have done em both ways.

Sending one to Randy now, so can compare real port work to mine. :)

Thank you,

I think they have the same max power potential with/without the stuffers. With the stuffers they do seem more violent, but tend to fall off quick. Without seems a bit more use able for a firewood hack. Such as myself, not always worried about having a perfect chain lol

Now had I started with a 357, I would have left the stuffers, and changed my numbers a bit for an 18" bar. Built this one with a 20/24 in mind.

Nice build, I like the way you stated a plan for the saw.

Thank you,

I try to envision what I want out of the saw, and what will work well for most people when I decide to sell.

Rather build multiple saws, setting each one just a bit different. Than constantly redoing the same one.

I got some trigger time on a 359 with a 357 topend. 18 inch 3/8 bar and chain set up I really liked. That saw made me realize one day when falling a oak tree, a ported saw can be dangerous. The back cut went way to fast and the tree started moving before I was ready. I changed my perspective that day.

Back to the saw, it was a good runner. Little hot for firewood. 8 pin sprocket to keep it off the limiter in the wood. :D

good looking saw, we have to put some atrazine or some herbicide to kill that unwanted greenery and leave just grass.

@Woodpecker running it

Set really fat 12,50p didn't have time to dial it in before the downpour came.

20" 3/8 stihl rs. Hard maple.

1st cut is just letting the chain do its thing. Second l, spikes were set. This saw really wakes up round 14k. But still dosent like a heavy hand.

Stopped at another friends house, and dropped it in some big dead ash.

Think once it bears in a bit it will be pretty stout.
