I've got a 394 I want to switch to .404 and run a 32" bar on it. The problem is: 1. Getting .404 in husky. 2. A bar I'm looking at is a Stihl mount. That means I'm going tohave to put an adaptor on it and I don't have any experience with them. I know people out there run them, what is your experience with them? Good or bad? Oil holes line up correctly? Do they hold the bar in a stable position? Thanks for any advise!

If it's a stihl branded bar, maybe others as well, you may have to add a drive link or 2 if you're running a larger sprocket. I've had to do this with a few bars on my 394

An Oregon D025 (3003) bar will require modification to run on a Husky in addition to the adapter. The chain adjuster holes on the D025 need to be drilled out because they are too small and the Husky adjuster drive post will not fit in. I think the D025 holes are 6 mm and the Husky posts are 7 mm.

There was also a thread on converting to stihl bar studs recently for another option .

That's kind of a last resort to welding the cases. You could do it if you wanted to have the 660 studs in the saw so no adapter.

One thing about Stihl mount size is the fact they are readily available .Plus most if not all of them seem to have wider heels thus making it handy for things like McCulloch and Homelite .Skinny heels just will not work on reed valve Macs or Homeys. The little washer type spacers like in the above post are exactly what I use, turned on a lathe .Kevin."Cut for Fun" made some from nothing but square nuts with nothing but a file that worked like a charm .--there's more than one way to skin the same cat---

Riddle me this... how does the drive link variance of certain sizes between Stihl and Husky bars come into play? Say for instance, if you're running the 36" Stihl bar on the Husky would you need the 114 the stihl bar calls for or the 115 that a husky mount bar would call for if it were on the saw?

3/8 stihl bar in Oz, 20" is one drive link longer at 73, 25" too at 85 instead of 72 and 84
As used on 365, 576xp, 390xp and 395xp

Thats using an adaptor from homelite410

As mdavlee mentioned above the extra links come about because the bar slot in a stihl bar is shorter then the d009 mount meaning the bar can not slide toward the sprocket more as the husky studs are further apart. I have an adaptor on my 7900 which I use a tsumura 25 .404 bar on which list 78 DL which is a link longer the normal as it is and I can fit 77's on it. Same chain on the 661 is a no go
