Subbing. I glanced at one and realized a MUFFLER MOD was going to be a challenge. The new 439. Is the rear handle version of the t435. I think that could be a neat saw.

I learned the hard-ish way that a muff mod is a lot easier than it seems, and they need it bad. A few screws on the bottom plastic pan and it comes off im quite sure without anything else needing removed. Muffler is 2 pieces, so comes right out the bottom. It needs to be uncrimped which was easy on the one i did. I also advanced timing a fair bit, like a whole fin on the flywheel, key completely filed off. Ran a ton better. Tuning it was a little wierd, im thinkin cuz the goofy strato valve setup on it.

I worked on a couple last winter. Opened up the exhaust outlet area, the black plastic intake restrictor, and removed the limiters. I sold them both to climbers and haven't seen them back yet. The mounts are a little squishy and the recoil seems flimsy but they are decent saws for the price.

I am thinking I'm going out the front. With the exhaust. These are real tree guys they want a working tool. So I may try stuff not for us psp type.

Great video david! I ended up adding a couple more gills, directing them more upward, and cutting off a fair bit of the little deflector above the gills. Didnt wanna go too loud and it came out pretty well i think, but im sure more could be gained.

I'd gut that and keep it big and open in there. I think that's why the 020t 200t were such animal saws cause they had a big exhaust and lots of breathing room inside the engine

On the two T435 that I brought back to life the starter pawl springs were broken and they are not available separately. Ended up finding another Husky pawl spring ( I think 338XPT) that will work.

Mike I have struggled with this. Basically two questions

Is a muffler possibly a tuned box that performs best at a tuned frequency the higher the frequency (rpm) the smaller the box should be.

Or

The larger the box the less resistance on the exhaust system. Meaning a more effective blowdown period.

a loop of stihl 63ps helps a lot over the crap they put on them at the factory.

That is a brain buster question. I do know the 200t top dog of all arborist saws has a big muffler under it like the husky your working on.
The 200t with a Lil muffler work can tune in at 15k with no other port work. But I personally think it's performance also comes from having a bigger exhaust to help rebound some pressure back to the cylinder for more compression. Compression is power. That's just my opinion
