I have heard that before Shaun, want to see if I can figure a solution out, since the 394 box is NLA, we need to get creative.
You can't use a 395 carb shelf with a 394 cylinder, there is no place to catch the throttle cable sheath.

Using a 394 case with a 395 carb shelf is no problem, but you have to use the 395 cylinder, carburetor and intake boot.

I bet someone could make a plastic piece that fits in the larger hole to capture the cable... you would have to use the rubber 395 intake horn mounts and shorter screws. You can use the 395 intake horn on a 394, just have to drill the carb bolt holes to size.

394 is on the left, 2 obvious differences are the posts for the filter elbow are shorter on the 395 box and the holes for the throttle cable in the boxes are very different. I can make shims for the posts, no big deal on that, might be able to drill a hole in the new box and use a 394 cable yet, at least thats what I am gonna try first anyways.

Looking at that, I can see just drilling a new proper sized hole where the old one was would be a easy fix most likely.

It looks like the 395 shelf may have a bit of a boss you can utilize for the 394 cable. But if that is too far forward then you are in the cutout for the stock 395 cable grommet.

The rubber rear mounts may help against cracking intake blocks. I often wonder if they are prone to cracking because the rear of the carb is solid mounted with the filter neck and it's putting a lot of stress on the intake block.

I got the rubber mounts on the rear of the carb box from 395, need to get a front rubber mount that is missing and the 2 orange pieces the rear AV mounts slide in on tomorrow at the dealer, I have the old ones but with all the rest of the plastic being new it will look silly not to have those as well

Dustin if you are replacing all that stuff with new what are you using from the old saw?thats a whole lotta new parts. So you are basically reusing the crank, topend, carb muffler front and front handle? Badically a whole new saw then huh

Crank, carb, oil pump, most bolts, intake tract, clutch, flywheel, I was lucky enough to track down 3 NOS air filter covers, all low tops, Am parts will be Hyway muffler and meteor piston, I have at least one more saw to build maybe as many as three more, those will get more used parts, this one I wanted to make as close to mint as I can.
