So guys I'm working on a 350 for a buddy and the plastic intake clamp roaches the top end. He's not going to pay for an oem top end.

That being said, Ik a lot of you guys switch to a 346 top end but will it get me anything extra being am vs an am 350 top end? Just curious.

Thanks guys

Yes, definitely go for the 346, much better transfer design.
Some of the $25 chicom ones aren't too bad, just be sure to give it a good visual and clean up accordingly.

If you do go 350 then make sure it's a closed port 45mm, not open port 44.

Yeah Im plan on making sure the jug doesn't have any casting flaws and I'll make sure everything is beveled well. Probably do some port cleanup as well.

This one is a 45mm closed port jug that's on it.

The open port 44's with a healthy muffler mod and base delete still rip wood for what they are.

With a 15" bar you will not notice any difference between them IMO.

I have just bought a 346xp thinking it was all OEM 346. But found out it has a 44m 350 top end. I am happy to keep it for what they are. A new caber ring, base delete, muffler mod and timing advance and they have all the handling and weight of a 346xp. You will not really notice the power unless you are timing cuts.

And then again the 350 top ends are a bit more forgiving in the rev range than a 346xp.

Having said this go for a 346xp top end. I just couldn't warrant changing the 44mm out as there is nothing wrong with it.

So do I need to get a hold of @Spike60 and get a price on an oem 346 top end? Before I price anything else?

He took it to a shop that said it had a bad cylinder and it would cost 400 dollars to get going. Needless to say that wasn't going to happen, he said he would just buy another saw before that.

One of the reasons the 44mm 350's are so close to to 45mm is that they have a flat, as opposed to dished, piston which gives them more compression. On most of the afm 45mm kits the piston is flat as on a 353, giving them a bit more advantage.

The 346xp top ends are 105 ish ....shipped from @Spike60
not $300 like they used to be. really one of the best deals going, especially if you aren't going to mod the cylinder at all. If you want to grab and go this is likely the ticket. Because husky dropped their pricing so drastically, it really was a bomb on the AM parts industry.

So tell me a good AM kit then. I only want this as a go to when my 034 gets too much. But then again I am a power loveer and the more I can get outta this 346 w/ 350 top end for a reasonable price would be good. Obvs it's a 346xp or a 45mm 353 debate. But I want an AM top end that is good for the long run. Tell me the decent brands for this model.

Meteor don't make one, or I can't find one. So I can find Hyway, Farmertec or Forestworld.

Farmertec are good for 038 mags and Meteor were good on a 372.. but who makes the little Husqvarna cylinders zip..

OEM here is £130 for a 346xp ne kit.

I like the hyway kits best, but you still need to do the port work.

get the 45mm closed quad port kit

As has been mentioned, the oem 346 kits are reasonable enough that I won't bother messing around with the higher priced afmkt stuff.

I also won't bother with the afmkt 350 kits where the 346's are available cheap also.
The cheap ones I'll play around with on 350's because I don't really want to spend oem $'s on a saw that's worth about as much as the cylinder and I have 346's to put the oem ones on anyway.

If a 350 has a good cyl I'll throw in a flat top piston and port it, I've found them to keep up with pretty much anything in their generation but a ported 346.

Here's one example of the cheap 346 kits, I've only bought a few but they've all been usable with minimal cleanup.

Ik that the oem 346 kit is going to be the best plan but he is going to be looking for total cost because he doesn't have a lot or money. So that being said I'll give him a couple options including oem. But I'm certain Ik what he will say
