I have never ran a 288 so cant comment on it. But i have a ported 385 that is smooth and powerful. I love running that saw and wouldnt trade it for a 288 any day of the week. Jmo

I have too...until I went bigger. Hindsight...I should have bought a band mill.

A friend has a 20" band mill that I did a lot of work on so I can borrow it anytime I like. So the chainsaw mill has been sitting for a while. Last time I used it I broke one of my 36" 3/8 lo pro chains on a 31" cut of red oak with the 395. I don't think a 288 would have pulled that, but it did well when I only had a 32" bar, which had a max cut width of 27".
