Boss cut some wedge wings off, didn’t work.
AR500 steel so the fmj ammo won’t be poking holes in them.
Got 2 of them, will make framework to hang them.

Very nice, those 77's and Hawkeyes are great rifles for sure. I've always been a fan of the old tang safety versions. Only complaint I've ever read about them is inconsistent accuracy on some of the older ones. Supposedly, Ruger used a couple of different barrel suppliers back in the day and some were subpar.

I've got tang safety guns in .243, 270 and .308. The .308 and .243 shoot great. The .270, not so much. I haven't messed with it a lot but have yet to find a load that'll do better than 2.5" at 100 yds. The same ammo shoots into a little over an inch in my M77 wing safety gun.

How's the leade and the muzzle crown look?

Some gunmakers are known for lengthy throats on the .270, dont know if Ruger did or not. A tang safety 77 would be old enough to where it might be ready for a new barrel, 'specially if it was marginal when new.

A Krieger or E.R Shaw would get that going in no time. Also provide an opportunity to do another caliber if you didn't want 2x .270's... I'm still thinking VERY hard about either a .280 Rem or a .338-06, though I would also entertain an 8mm-06 just to piss everyone off!!!

Have you tried both flat base and boat tails? My 77 MKII in .243 is dead-nuts with a flat base design, but only mediocre with BTs.
I've only tried BT bullets. That's what I shoot in the other .270 and they shoot well.

Tell the boy that was a good call getting him out of there.

How old you figure he was?

Don’t know. I’m not a good judge of that.
His front teeth were wore down to the gum.
Missing half of back ones and what was left had no crown on them, smooth.
6-7 maybe

Was invited to shoot this property today for foxs, had a tour with the owner and I will go back in a few nights, its on the opposite side of the road from 3 other properties I regularly shoot so it's very convenient.
Owner is also seeing some pigs and deer wondering in from the river lands.
