Quick question regarding vise grips with the duck bills. What is everyone doing with the flaps? Do you leave them as is and use them, or cut the sides down a bit? I just bought a set of Irwin 8R's. Thanks.

I gotta try and find John Reilly's google page and you tube channel.

This is almost good, except he is trying to force it too much. Instead of a vice and my thumb, I use a stump vice, put it on a flat surface (w/45 degree lines) and I use a paint stirrer to lock the tooth in place (much easier on the thumb, and works better).

You want to go outside in (not inside out like round), 45 degrees back, 45 degrees down, and 45 degrees tilt. Always keep the corner of the file in the corner of the tooth and stroke straight. If you put the corner of the file in the corner of the tooth, and go 45 degrees back, the little flat edge of the file will contact the strap on the opposite side providing the correct down angle and tilt.

This is a good reference of what it should look like: http://www.madsens1.com/bnc_cb_angles.htm
