That happens on 110 dl of skip unfortunately.
How smooth a finish are you getting out of square filed ? I have not found right angles yet ,it ends up cutting too fast and ripping fibers in the softwoods on the top side of the bar cutting ,leaves little chips attached to one side of the board ,i have to slow it down with 10 and zero on the usg round to get nicer boards with chisel chain ,this is softwoods though .Doug fir seems to tear the fibers worse than the cedar does .

What's opinion for depth gauges? Keep the gap small for a nice cut or just go standard .025"/.65mm hardwood setting

I run .025" or real close milling. I touched the chain up and was almost too much without touching the rakers. The 2nd cut was much better and fed with no pressure from me.

Hey Mike, what's your opinion on the Save Edge double bevels? I'm currently using one I got from the giveaway thread. I like it. It leaves a decent finish with a light touch, at least IME. Of course the Bahco's should be here any day now.

When I was filing the 066 today (Oregon lgx), I noticed the vallorbe dB not doing much. Grabbed a new one and did the same thing. Any chance there was chrome on the bottom of the cutter? Or it was over-hardened. I had to really get after it to file it off.

I'm satisfied with the PFERD chisel bit flat, but I have not used the other brands mentioned, so I have no context regarding how it compares.

I don't do race chain, but for everyday working chain, it seems to do just fine.

A chain will move a lot at high speeds. Those bike saws are crazy to watch the chain.
An interesting pic to do is take a pic at WOT of the clutch cover area with the clutch cover removed and just nuts (need some washers). Give good perspective of how chain moves at 1-200 ft per second. Its a bit of a blurr but you can see clearly what is happening at speed, very interesting mike.

Possibly. If the file skips I hit it with a round file first.
