I have been following this thread for a while and am ready to give it a go

I want one factory loop of square ground for a reference example but can’t locate ANY locally so I will need to order a loop

What brand would make the best example of what I am trying to duplicate?

Oregon will be the easiest to get but I am fine with locating and ordering Stihl or whatever you guys think

I know that factory grind can almost always be improved on by an experienced hand filer but I am sure a beginner would appreciate a solid sample to emulate

Thanks

I'd get a loop from someone in here who square grinds.

You might get a hold of Rope from fhc. He's in Tok and has bulk Oregon chain and just bought a Simington as well. Would save you on some shipping as well

That's a good option and obviously could be far superior to a factory loop

Thanks

I belong to FHC but hardly post; however, I will swing over there and see what's up

Thanks

Thank you guys that forward lean really made all the difference!

Bores like a champ now... might've gotten a little aggressive lowering the rakers but that chain really came alive today.
When the cutter is right, lowish rakers may make it feed a little harder than you want, but definitely still serviceable.

I hand filed 93 dl of EXL last night. Did the right and then the left, by the time I got done with my left side I was in the groove, and I had already learned a bunch so when I looked back at my right side I saw where I went off and improved them a bit.

This was the first one I did from round to square. Starting square is much easier with say 72 or something, you have a guide.

Nice. Get it in some wood and let us know how it cuts.

Once commonality I notice with a good hand file or grind is that you usually hit the tie on the back on the down stroke, not sure if anyone else sees that.

Yessir. Most of my straps to the rear of my cutters are hacked up.
