Not being able to rotate the file, I'd imagine the cutting edge would go south much quicker than a totally round file. Guess this is a way to sell a bunch of files? Or not.

Interesting PDF, I'm not sure how smooth that side plate from the hex shape file would cut that kinda looks like < . One thing I like about square chisel is how the side plate ends up almost straight. But my guess is they know a few things I don't lol.

If the PDF is truly accurate I don't like the file 100% perpendicular to the bar. The corner of the file is doing nothing to an actual cutting point. It's just knocking back the side of the cutter which would not even be making initial cutting contact with wood.

But the file design in figure 19 and 20 in the patent looks interesting. I looks like 2 different top corner angles than from the regular 130 degrees of a regular square file. If the top surface an next surface down have cutting abilities it would allow someone to change inside corner and side cutter angles by changing files rather than changing the position of the file. Might allow for creativity. Correction - it would change the top inside top plate angle also.
