You try Vallorbe brand ? , haven’t found a better brand file than them, they last really well ,
I buy them for all my round filing.
Im no square filer yet, but I was working some old chains with the goofy file and it seemed pretty easy to hit the corner for me .
I was looking for feedback from others since I'm unlikely to run into any square filers around me.
Sounds like the goofy isn't as relatable as square for most.

The only thing better than these is some fine bourbon on a relaxing Friday night past quitting time.

They do hold their edge extremely well. I am on season #2 with one side dull and other sharp.

Just amazing.

Yep, I found those to be far superior to all the rest. 👍🏼👍🏼

The double bevel files I’ve used dull way too quickly. The goofy lasts longer, and is far more forgiving.
@Mastermind do you file from innside to out as with roundfile or the opposite way? I ordered the vallorbe goofy file now. I have the RS pro chain already in .325. It was not expensive so I tought way not. Been watching this
and this
I know I cant duplicate this but why not try?

I've always gone into the square point rather than out as I've done with semi-chisel. Square point is most important IMHO. Starts the cut. Also as chain saw slabing is my primary use the gullet is opened with large round at an angle to minimize chip catch drag.
Good fortune 4 you

I filed outside - in for the first year or so but the files had a short life. Now changed to filing inside - out and the files last about 4 times longer

It is harder to do but once you find your technique it's ok

With a goofy file, inside out.

I was thinking of the same technique as with roundfile. I rest the saw on my legt thigh and support it with my left arm, support the tooth with my thumb, and file with my right hand. The other side I am doing it the same way, rest it on my right thigh etc. I am right handed but I file just as easy mitt my left hand. Get a litle bit of hellping from the saw since the bar is placed on the right side of the saw, doing the left hand filing easier. But the goofy filing I bet is more difficult, dont know if I can use my methode here but I will try.
