Yesterday I was making some extra needles, accidentally engaged auto-feed, and wrecked the one I was finishing.

Shut the lights out and locked the door.

Gonna crawl my old ass into a sweat lodge here in a little while.

Back at it Monday.

Was making shifter knobs yesterday on the lathe and answering texts at the same time. Engaged in the wrong direction, but caught it in time. I put the phone down and finished, but was a good wake up, that I need to stay focused with the task at hand, even though it seems like I have lots of time just watching it cut.

I love the fact you make parts like this. It really sets you apart from many other builders. The ones that are still very good at porting amd mods but dont do these type of carb mods. I assume this really makes a 3120 really run. Funny how the bigger saws require so much extra work. The 088 880 comes to mind.

Is there no off the shelf needle that would work for us guys tgat cant make them?

The same one that is in the low side could be made to work by reshaping the tip, and shortening it so it doesn't interfere with the air filter base. Or.......I could send you a needle.

You peddlin sharp pointy things now?

Amazing what can be done with a cube of potmetal.
I am enjoying the carb stuff, it makes me think.
I usually end up in the shop with a junk carb until i am completely confuzzed.

It was expensive to figure this mod out. I trashed several carbs in the process.

Put the drill in the right place then get it to run true.
All that done on a little cube with a tiny bit.
Good lighting , an optiviser, readers and clear head. How often does all that end up all together at once?

Get it right then you want to do another one.
Yep, it will get expensive.

Need any secondary metering rods for Q jets? Gawd i'm old!

160.oo for a carb with extra holes and a sharp pointy thing!
You are the man!!!

That is a good price actually. Knowing where to drill and what size is where the money is made.

Now i guess i have to buy a saw for this carb to go on.

I apologize in advance if it has been asked... But the channel you cut for a fuel passage, do you do this on any other carbs (for normal work saw builds), and is it noticeable (or just for extra security). I've wondered before, and figured this would be the perfect place to ask. I know I rarely post, but I have learned quite a bit from your posting. I read more than I post these days, but thank you for this thread.

I'm not 100% sure that it's needed. But, it adds volume to the metering well. This is the only carb I add these types of mods to.

Im guessing these same type mods can be done to other single adjustment carbs? Know not simple. What else could be used to square up the drill?

On the earlier versions without the pilot hole, I set the carb up in a four jaw chuck, and drill it in the lathe.
