Good morning!

12˚ out with a nice stiff breeze. Nancy and Emerson have the day off, so we'll be having a family day inside today, I think. I would like to get out and pick up some hydraulic fluid, a quart of Mobil 1 10-30, and some straight gas for the splitter, but as cold as it is, it might wait another day. I am enjoying my family, very grateful for our health, safety, and the fact that our appliances all work now...

BE safe out there.

Good afternoon y'all.
Not quite enough to shovel in Wichita. Highs in the mid 20s with 20mph winds though. Side roads are slippery but I have some green hedge in the pickup. Tomorrows high is 16 with 25mph winds.

I don't recall this many days below freezing in any January round these parts..

We normally get cold then back up to the 40's for highs..

Enjoyed the spike up to 58 the other day, but that was short lived.

Yeah, it's been many years since we've had cold like this. We cut a 16' trailer load of oak that one warm day. And another one during the previous warm up.

Yep. I've just been vaporizing firewood. I had more cut this year than the last couple and felt pretty good about myself. At the rate I'm burning it up though, I might have another month's worth. Hopefully that'll get us through this spell and I can get some more cut when the temps get back to the 30's. At this point, 30's would feel damn near tropical.

I went out and talked to the guy at the hose fabricator place. He told me no pipe dope, and not to make it too tight as to torque it loose from the other side of the fitting. And got some hydraulic oil, gas, and of course the invincible Mobil 1. New 5 gal push button gas can. And a little snow shovel for Emerson. Splitter works. But it made a terrible sound starting out on a big hunk of elm, which overwhelmed it. Maybe I should have gotten a 35 ton unit. Sometimes the racket is horrific, rattling and banging. Holding the pivot hitch pin seems to stop that. This machine will definitely work hard, because anything easy I’ll just whack it with the Fiskars because it’s quicker. I like the auto return feature, and I can definitely keep up with the 14 second cycle. Once it dropped below 10 degrees out, it shut off twice in one log.

Now I’m set. Once I learn the machine, it should go more smoothly.

Sixteen more 20" long splits added to the burner @ 10:00 p.m. Good, rock-solid, heavy oak. I imagine they'll all be gone by 9:00 a.m. It's supposed to be 1 whopping degree by then.

I think it's time for them Southern boys to turn their fans North and give us a little relief.

First crack out of the box I’m going to measure the bore & stroke.
Anything less than 57cc will get a ‘not as described’ rant from the geezer.

You got all the air out of the system? What you describe may be pump cavitation John.
