Alright, time to start a build thread. Tore the 770 down and the bottom end is freed. Unfortunately the top end was toast so I ordered a parts saw. The parts saw which did not run only needed a fuel line and hack job on the spark plug wire to run. haha It runs like a champ! Pictures and a video. Beware my videos are not forum specific so I do alot of explaining and talking.

Is this one getting paint and the whole nine yards too?

Looks like an interesting project for sure.

Yup! It will be stripped down and all parts will be painted back to close colors. Using a rattle can so it won't be Stunning or anything, but with a decent spray paint and new decals it should be a nice saw.

Nice project, The GS is a very special saw.

I started a restoration on the same saw over a year and a half ago
but got hung up on a few missing parts. Parts for the geardrive are
next to impossible to find as well as a full wrap handle.

Luckily gear drive and full wrap handle is all there.

Alright so the restoration is under way. Bought a blasting cabinet and got some parts painted up. May redo some as it was moist and the paint wasn't to happy. Heat gun fixed alot of that later on so will redo most likely. Had a blast though and excited to get this thing running. 012.JPG 014.JPG 015.JPG

Looking great, The top cylinder cover is suppose to be green. Not sure if that matters
to you. Here are a couple pic's of my nice one I found a few years ago. Gives an idea
as to the colors.

After blasting I dip the parts in some clean gas to get the majority of the dust off. Then quickly use some surface prep, tack cloth, then paint.

Make sure you hit your flash times, don’t be like me and learn the hard way lol

Looking forward to seeing it all together.

Very cool to see a someone restoring old iron like this. I get the vibe that you are close to my age of 35. People think im crazy for messing with old stuff. I guess it is very rare for people my age in my area to work on stuff and not live on electronic devices. Nice work

I guess I'm fairly close.... 18 here. It's Super rare for people my age to be doing anything like this, and yet I'm the crazy one for restoring old trucks and chainsaws....I fail to see their logic. Thanks man!

These types of hobbies need young folks like you two to keep the hobbies going.
Us antiques won't be around forever as much as we want to. Need to get the kids
off the computer games and play outside and get dirty. Learn things and get interested
in some of this stuff we have a passion for.
