are you running a 346 crank or a 350 crank???
I think I tried running a 346 plastic worm gear on a 350 crank and it did not fit. They may have changed it up now so that this cover, rim, spline and worm drive all fit together on the crank and the oiler on a 350 but that was not the case awhile ago.

I'm running the 346 crank. The saw minus the tank/handle, recoil, clutch cover and various fasteners is all 346.

ok, thanks, I think the 346 worm gear like you show in your picture does not fit on a 350 crank, they may be different diameters, I ordered one from Baileys just to make sure and will check back.

The problem with the 350 worm gear that fits on a 350 crank is that I do not think anyone is making them to precisely fit the small splines on the rim drive like the 346 worm drive shown in your picture so folks are simply using the sloppy fit worm drive of the 350 with the rim drive and making do. It works but is less than ideal.

On a side note, I've tested this saw out three times and I'm very impressed with how nicely it starts and idles. I've been playing around with the oiler (modded it for extra flow) and worked on making it a non leaker. Two pulls and if I'm fast enough with the choke it starts.

I've made a few test cuts and I'm pretty impressed. I only have a new loop of Stihl RM and in some frozen ash you can tell it has some power, but I'd like to run it with a nice chain. I'll still running it rich for the time being.

Given the fact that this saw has a meteor 45mm p&c and not a "true" 346 top end, am I losing out much performance wise compared to an OEM 346 NE top end? Just curious.

I would think that if it was ever to be ported I'd rather send an OEM P&C.

Can not tell you. I have two of the 346xp conversions you could try if I ever meet up with you at a GTG or your are in the twin cities visiting relatives.

I just bought an Oregon rim drum from Dave. Went on ok, but had to use the plastic oil worm from a 346. I believe one of my 350's came with the worm that had a metal coil around it for threads to drive the pump. I tried the plastic one and it fit. But I can't remember why I didn't use the metal coil one. I'm not sure if it would have worked or not

The 346 worm drive
Part #503892103
Works on a 346 crank
Not a 350 crank
It has a bigger diameter (.59 inch compared to .50 inch) and has a different depth than a 350 worm drive

If you want to run a rim drive on a 350 crank you need to run a 350 worm drive "as-is" or modify it as I suggested earlier in this post.

That part # shows up as a spur type worm gear in the descriptions.

I wanted to share this find. Everything needed to convert to a 346 in one package. Not mine btw.

That link to ebay would be more aptly named.... "converting an open port integral bearing cup cylinder to a closed port 346xp like clone whilst adding the required metal intake clamp and exhaust bracket"

and yes..the oiler pinion does fit. It's all about getting the right drum and needle bearing I think. My setup works fine. It's saw #5 from my vids in case anyone is familiar.

503 89 22 IS the spur drive worm gear that you use on a 350 crank using a spur drive. It is also the same worm gear you use when running a rim drive on a 350 crank.
A worm gear made to fit the rim drive spline precisely like that made for a 346 crank does not currently exist to the best of my knowledge.

Let me know when you find it
Because I have lost my box of chainsaw parts and I can not find it. I have not checked inside the freezer yet!

FWIW this worm gear issue for a rim drive on a 350 has been discussed a lot on AS and a Swedish chainsaw forum and came to the same conclusion I did.
Frankly I hope you find a 350 worm drive that fits the rim drive spline exactly, I could not.

If I must run 3/8, I'll find a combo that's close. TY
