Someone has given me a burnt up Husq 359. I have an older 346xp with a muffler mod & was going to swap the HDA-199 carb from the 359 int the 346. Yeah, lots of reading out there about this but I can't figure out if all of them are talking about ported saws. I know that an engine can be over-carbed and this is putting on a larger carb without increasing flow through the cylinder. Or will an aggressive MM make this work?

Do you have to change the intake boot? Dunno, won't own any Husky's until the day after tomorrow.

I am not so sure I would put that 199 on your saw . the primer bulb is very nice option on the carb on it .

I have primer bulb on my 2253, got so used that all the other saws doesnt have it that I never use it on 2253 anymore.
Many who put 199 on 346, exchange everything included airfilterholder and filter.
There has been discussion of what parts should be kept from 346 though.
@Mastermind is probleby the correct person to speak about this.

I would fix the 359 and buy another carb for the 346. Especially since OEM jugs have come down....

Plan A was to put a new 357xp top on it because of the new prices. Now I have it in my hands & found that the case is broken. Its small but significant. The tab of the case where the spring av mounts with the chain catcher is snapped. Honestly, I haven't shopped around for someone locally who could repair this. Being what would be considered a serious safety issue were it to break again during use, I'm exploring options to put a windfall to good use. If it gets fixed in the future, these parts aren't going anywhere.

There is tons of info on the whats & hows out there. Different ways to do it that all work. All take just a little fiddling. My biggest concern was an imbalance between a stock flowing cylinder & bigger carb.

I think that you can use the complete intake from the boot back from the 359. It gives more airflow even the air filter has larger filtration area. Make sure to look at the 199 mod prior to installing the carb.

compare the 346 boot to the 357 boot - either will work. There is a difference, not a ton. I'm not a primer bulb fan myself.

I am running a 199 on my 346. I am putting the stock carb back on though.

For some reason the 199 idles down real slow, and it does have some hesitation in it when I give it gas.

I put the stock carb on and all was well.

Here's the fix for that.

If you use the 359 intake.......it doesn't match the jug very well.

I would rather use the 346 intake, the 199 carb, and the 359 air filter parts. Remember that you'll need to do some clearance work around the kill switch......

Now......all that said, I can't tell much difference between that setup, and the stock setup.

I'm running a 199 on my old OE346, but it's ported. If left stock there's no reason to do it. Ported I can tell a small diff. Best to run the 346 intake boot.

Since I'm saving myself the trouble of messing with a perfectly good 346, does anyone here feel like welding a small magnesium tab back onto what is now a project saw?
