Why the 7000 over the 9000? Any particular reason, or "just because Tree Monkey says so"? I know the 9000 is more expensive.

I can't remember what the 7000 costs but the 9000 is almost $16/qt here.

The 9000 is about 2X the price IIRC. But yeah, the reason that I, and probably many other guys are running 7000 is that it's pretty cheap, seems to look good upon teardown, and yeah, that Scott's been running it at 32:1 in everything (including a 440 with as much runtime as my Honda) for decades.

The 9000 is twice the cost of the 7000, plus upon inspection of the innards, areas that other oils were showing wear, the 7000 wasn’t.

I’d like to try the 9000, but having to purchase the entire case is a pretty expensive investment. I’d imagine that at some point in the future I’ll be able to get some 9000 to try, but I put the money that I was going to get some 9000 with towards something a little more important to me, Jeremy can use it more than I need any 9000

I always lament that my syrup equipment only gets used for one month a year. Sure would be nice if there was an easy way to make it do double duty...
I thought about this on the road driving. You better leave making booze alone with that rig. You mess up or the pot lid leaks, you go boom.

Wow this thread is still going, I never trusted the dominant bearings in a work saw.
