Since i'm not really into the daily use saws like the mid size
Huskys and Stihls i gotta ask. What the christ is the big deal
with a Stihl 044 10mm. Why doe's it seem to be a very sought
after saw.

Come on guys school me. I may want one.

The original 10mm 044 saws were a part of the "modern" family of Stihls introduced throughout the 80's (024, 034, 044, 064, 084). All the earlier examples of each have aggressive porting and more advanced ignition timing. The 10mm 044s were a huge hit with loggers, especially the cable yarding thinning crews. The 034 was very popular with the pre-commercial thinning crews or "spacing" crews. My dad was falling timber at the time as a contractor and he bought new 064s and 084s as soon as they arrived at the dealership.

I'm just amazed how many 044 10mm I've ran across in my area; I've picked up a couple up in Darrington couple in Sedro Woolley

You talk with some of loggers here what they use and most have said 044

I can only trust what they say about saw's; when I get done putting one together I will have several people wanting it and it isn't ported just cleaned up and put back together with new parts
