Agreed 100%. We have an old horse drawn planter that plows, pokes the taters in the row and covers them up. 100# of seed potatoes goes in in no time.

My 74 year old helper loves planting potatoes. I lay the rows off and he sets them, and when we dig them he picks every one of them up. He did three rows that day and it was 95 degrees. ( Tough old codger )

As far as gardens go I get lucky. I get free seed for buying field crop seed. A right good sized bag of real good stuff. Pioneer seed is what I plant. They give me a bag of whatever seeet corn I ask for. I takes care of my neighbors. Put it right in the field planter and run a few little patches. Trouble with sweet corn still when it's time to pick its time to pick. I let the neighbors go for it. No way anyone could even freeze all of it. The standing fodder I feed the cattle

I do the same thing here. There are about 12 or 15 dove hunters that come every year and they like sweet corn so I let them know when the first patch is ready and tell them they got about a week to get it. Try to have a patch ready every week if weather permits planting on time. My helper then takes his corn knife and cuts a pickup load of the fodder every day for his cows.

I got one of the sweet corn and garden patches plowed Tuesday during a drizzle. My helper wants to plant potatoes and peas already. The ground is still too cold here yet.

Dad always calls the shots on the day we start planting. This year he broke the ground up then decided it was to early. I think he just picks the day he gets bored and goes from there.

He does give me a little heads up when I see the rebar drove in on either side. I know then it won't be long till I get the call to pull lines for the rows.

Worked a few weeds out of my little pea and potato patch between rains. Another 1/2 inch today.

Jealous. We won't even till our garden for another week or 2. Assuming it ever stops raining.

And more rain coming Thursday and Friday, and headed your way!!

Finally dried up enough today to plant a patch of sweet corn and sunflowers today, with the old vintage A.C. planter.

We have a very similar planter. Grandpa bought it new in the 60's and still won't let anyone else use it. Our fertilizer tanks are still working, though, which is rare.

Plowed a little garden today. It goes another 500 feet or so down the hill past the house, and widens out past the house too.
