I picked up a Foley 308 chain grinder today. Bought it from the original owner who ran a small saw shop and saw milling operation. He had all of their other sharpening equipment too to sharpen band saws blades and circular saw blades with and with out carbide teeth. He also had an old Foley filing machine too. Best source of info I found on the Foley 308 was on AS but is still very limited.

I see @Termitebuffet also started a post on the 308 grinder. I'll have to go read it. I have the manual in case you dont.

I also grabbed a Foley chain breaker and spinner from him as well as a small roll of carlton chain, 2 packs of files and 3 loops of used chain for 24" bar.

Are you using a 3/16" wheel? The diamond wheel on mine is 1/8"... here are some pics of a chain I did today.

The angle gauge for the head tilt is gone. I think it is at about 45 degrees and needs to be more like 35. Where do you have your set at?

It also looks like you need a broader radius on your stone or a thicker stone?

Yes I agree, it's a 1/8" wheel. The manual says it can be used for 3/8" chain but 3/16" wheel is preferred. Even that seems small to me. I believe he did a lot of .325 and 1/4" pitch chain.

I'm going to adjust the rakers and give that chain a try, it seems sharp.

The manual did tall about not grinding into the gullet, only to the bottom of the flat side plate. I suppose any deeper doesnt actually aid in cutting but we all know you need to get the gullet and if you had the need to hand file that chain now you have a lot of material to remove...

Anyone have a source for wheels on this? I read they have an odd ball size arbor hole (1/2" IIRC). I did a Google search and found this site that sells new wheels. Largest they have is 3/16" and a diamond wheel is the same price as a CNB wheel. Not cheap!
