Here's a video of my best attempt at tuning the carb on my new-to-me 026. I'm very naive at tuning carbs. The saw wound up idling around 3,200-3,300 rpm and WOT ran at about 11,600 rpm. I feel like the throttle response is a little slow, but this is the best I could manage. Also, I certainly have a little room to go down a little on LA if needed. PLEASE feel free to critique/help me. I really do want to learn to get better.

I would set it at 13,500. Set the L by.. turn in until it goes whop whop whop uneven idle from being lean, back out about 1/4. Set idle 3000. Make sure it’s nice and hot when you set final tune.

As your setting you idle move the saw around. Like tip the nose of the saw down, up, roll the saw to see if it stays the same. And I always like to tune in a log while cutting.

Thank for the feedback. I couldn't get it to 13,500 WOT. It wanted to take off super lean at above 12,000 or so. I'll keep working on it. Thanks for the feedback. BTW, I'll probably be opening up the muffler anyways in the near future.

That’s not normal for it to go lean at above 12k. Could need a fuel line/filter/seals/carb kit ect. Not sure. Factory spec is 14k on 026. I usually set 2-300 fatter for work.

I tached a fix high jet 026 once and it was around 11500 no load and wide open.

I wonder if he’s talking about leaning L out to get more rpm. Which would be incorrect. Does this saw have a fixed or a real H screw?

No, I'm talking about the adjusting the H. Yes, this saw a has real LA, L and H adjustments. Anyways, I'll be opening up the muffler and retuning sooner than later.

I'd be trying to fix any issues with it before modding the muffler for sure.

It sounds like it's right about where you want it in the video. The low sounds a wee bit lean but that may balance out when fully warmed up. It sounds healthy and safe at 11,600.

Here it is in 15" rock oak. The chain is a 3/8th full comp semichisel (no safety hump link). Definitely not the fastest set up, but you get the idea.

Here it is set to @huskyboy 's recommendations. I think it's still 4-stroking at 13,700.

That's too lean for work. I wouldn't set it above 13,000 unless cant racing.
I believe the 026 spec sheet says 2800 rpm idle, and 13,000 max rpm. The 026 pro may be a touch higher but I'm not sure.

I run my stihl MS260 around 14,200. Although mine has a modded muffler, gasket delete and the choke modded. 13k is way rich for a 260, 11,200 is insanely rich.
