All,
I thought some of you might appreciate this saw that I stumbled upon while sitting at the doctor's last week. Was a price and distance that made me throw my budgeting and planning to the wind and just go for it. It is a Mercury KB6-AX with a Disston helper handle. It is the military version so it never had a muffler or the air cleaner to keep from restricting power.

Scratcher chain is run on a lot of these saws, so just look for videos of older, two-man saws, running.

A lot more info in that thread.

They sound just like an old boat motor under load .
If I understand correctly, isn't that basically what they are? A Merc boat motor engine mounted and turned into a chainsaw.

I'd imagine that's probably how it happened .McCulloch started out with super chargers ,then chainsaws and later with Scott-Atwater outboards .Evinrude was in the story some place but I forget where .

Homelite made pumps. Husqvarna made motorcycles, muskets, sewing machines, . . . Remmington made typewriters!

Not to derail the op's thread is there any videos of such a existing chain
This chain has a right cutter, left cutter, right raker, center raker and left raker. The cutters score the edge of the kerf and the rakers chisel out the wood between. It has a ton of angles to file when sharpening.

Not derailed in the least I feel. Thanks for sharing these videos, it is awesome seeing how these worked when they were state of the art.
