No wonder it exploded.

I've always wondered about exploding flywheels, how fast they can spin, and how much they can be modified before exploding.

I hope you heal up well.

Hope it didn't do too much damage....to you or the saw. Well wishes for a speedy recovery!

Happen to catch it on video? :icon_popcorn:

OMG

Hope you heal up well. Looks painful.

I’d say you need a new flywheel, case, and Kevlar gloves.

Case might be repairable. If you wanna strip and bead blast the entire case half, I’d try for you.

Not sure if you found all the parts.

A lot of guy's on here say it's harmless piss revving a chainsaw with no chain or bar?
I guess you are in the same boat as the few of us that have had things let go (mostly clutch) and now we are not so game to piss rev with no bar and chain!
Looks like you got a good hammer from flying parts! lucky it could have been so much worse like loss of sight...

Sorry you got nailed by that thing coming apart !

By chance, did you statically balance the flywheel ?

Ouch!
GWS.
Was the flywheel modified at all?
Thank you guys Flywheel was original no mods to it ,did not have it balanced because my other saws run fine in the same rom range

I was thinking since its quite an old saw that the flywheel might have been on an offa few times or casting flaw?

ive seen a lot of full blown race saws with the flywheel turned right down to just the hub, magnets and counterweight. no cooling whatsoever, which may not be great for your guys style of racing, but i would think that could help a flywheel hold together by reducing the drag and rotating mass.

I had a 12" truck clutch explosion but nothing got me good....almost lost my right foot when *s-word came through the floor. Got lucky there. Bumps and bruises...whew.
