Ever See a Saw Run Backwards?

I am working on a 031 and it runs backwards. I'm going to to check out the flywheel key.

Are You certain the chain is on correctly?
Maybe You just have to turn the chain around.

A video of the saw running in reverse would be cool.

I had a 064 do that once. Bearings were out causing timing to be off. Freaked me out at first.

Flip the chain to match the direction of rotation?

I had a bad defective coil do it before too. Swapped coil... it fixed the problem.

This saw has a coil and an ignition module. I'm thinking it is the ignition module. I saw universal Oregon modules on Ebay for $20.

I got a video of it. Turning the chain would work but it is very hard to start and won't rev very high. It is pretty sluggish.

Seems like on some saws that could really frag the recoil...

Had my 3406B Cat run backwards pulling a belly dump in soft ground.
Something seemed weird,when the air cleaners started smoking black i knew what it was

Check to make sure the recoil is wrapped the correct way

I remember my fathers Mack Trucks used to run just as good backwards as forwards lol

Snowmobiles have been using that for reverse for about 10 years now. Push a button and the engine kills for a sec and fires up backward

I had it happen on my IT 175 Yamaha back in ‘82. I had just rebuilt the top end and hooked the two wires from the coil up reversed. Fired it up, revved a few times, dropped er down in 1st and dumped the clutch. Front fenders don’t taste very good.

Some early gear drive and direct drive chainsaw engines would change rotation using the same engine with different spark timing and a recoil that turned in the opposite direction.

460 yahama will do it if you stall them on a hill. Use your imagination from there lol

Saw a guy on an Ossa trials bike do that once. It shot faster down the hill than it went up it.[emoji15]

Interesting experience. Will definitely keep you in the pipe the next time around.
