Elliot is a good friend of mine and a fine youn man. He works at a local Stihl dealer in the shop. He’s always got his “side hustle” on. Auctions etc looking for equipment to fix and flip. Brought this 261 to me to port. It came from you guessed it...county surplus auction. Well used but runs. It’s a little sluggish for a 261 soooo let’s have a look
After a thorough cleaning

If you want to pull the carb, you’ll need to modify an 8mm socket or the Stihl t-handle fits

Tight quarters in the carb box. Undo the meta clip and you can move this out of the way

Remove top handle and of course foam “AV” not present opposite the spring. Back to the parts saw......

Set up for a pressure and vac test
These rubber tiles are available at Lowe’s. I make these templates as needed. It’s pretty easy to work with. Now this saw gets its impulse through the intake boot. I loosen the Schrader valve on my pressure tester and test from spark plug hole. I don’t have the fancy aluminum block from Stihl....

Looks good. Always a good idea to test a used saw as you break it down. Just ask me how I know .........

Make sure you’re at BDC to get an accurate test. (Transfers open)

Swift tap or two or a puller if she’s stubborn

Interesting your OEM Stihl 8mm nut driver (wiha T-handle) fit in the carb manifold/filter base. My red handled Wiha T doesn't fit, I turn down a 1/4" 8mm bit thinning the sides to get in there.

Modified round file. Grind off side and bottom.
A little off the key and about this much rotation counterclockwise. Remember, when advancing timing “ a lil dab’l do ya, and a big ole glob’l screw ya”. We’ll see how she takes to it.....

At least until someone mentions that the equivalent model ShinEchovarnaOlo is lighter with more power and easier to work on.
