I'm generally a fan of the 3/8th lp because I'm a cheap bastage. But here's a good argument for the 1/4"

20190630_153001.jpg

The 3/8th just chattered along the branch right into my thumb. Happened fast I got lucky it wasn't worse. New out of the box oregon 91vxl. My fault for one handing, but my hand was a good 16" away from the saw.

I cut myself on 1/4 being stupid and carelessly turning the chain by hand when I was sharpening it. I didn't pay attention to the fact that I was pushing into the teeth.

What about the 361p from echo? I know it’s not a 201, but I’ll bet it’s a great saw and is substantially cheaper. I’m thinking about a rear handle 2511 or a 361p for a 4 wheeler saw. I don’t need one at all, but needing and wanting are 2 diff things.

The 355/360/361 series is a great little saw. They have good port timing and very aggressive ignition advance. This not only makes them very responsive, but they can often tackle much bigger wood than you would usually go to with such a saw. The 2511 is tiny, but the 361 is also tiny. The 361 can pull a 15 inch bar easily with the cat removed. This is the 361 we have on the estate in Waterford after grinding out the cat and punching a hole in the baffle so the exhaust has a straight path out of the muffler. No welding or brazing required. The wood is oak, 15 inch B&C with PM3 if I recall. As Pecker put up recently, some 3/8 can be grabby(especially Oregon XL). It seems to be mainly due to the length of the top plate. But the Stihl version doesn't seem to suffer as much from this. In any case, if you are having issues, you may want to take a dremel and grind of the heel of the top plate at a bit of an angler to smooth it out.

Oooo son! Lucky it was just a nibble! I’ll second that major chatter with that chain especially on the little 2511.

This looks and sounds great. It’s just on the edge of a little fat, just like me. Oh who am I kidding? I’ve been full on fat for a couple of years.

All jokes aside, this does look great. It’s light and appears to be quite strong for what it is. I want one!

Damn you guys. Don't make me want the 361 again too!

My small saw hunt started when I decided I wanted something smaller then 50 cc for limbing. I almost bought the echo 361 but I got talked into a stihl 241. It's an awesome saw (and I love it with picco bar & chain - slices through 6-8" wood) but it's not *that* much lighter than my 261.

Rear handle powerhead dry weights (lbs):
Stihl 261: 10.8
Stihl 241: 9.9
Stihl 201: 8.6
Echo 361p: 8.4
Echo 2511: 5.7

361p is 1.5 lbs lighter than the 241. That's a lot for a saw that size. But I handled them both in the store before buying and the echo didn't feel that much lighter for some reason. The 241 somehow feels lighter than it is...

2511 is 2.5 lbs lighter than the 361p. That's an incredible jump.

I was thinking keep the 241 and add the 2511. But I have too many saws so maybe replacing the 241 with a 361P makes more sense. Damn CAD hah

I was looking to replace our MS180(which I do not suggest any get, it just doesnt last in a rough environment). I was considering leaving my ported 241 to the estate to die when I came across an opportunity to purchase a 361 NIB for like 250 euro. When I held it side by side with the 241, I just couldn't believe how tiny and light it felt. And in use, it is a wonder. With the easy start, it's super easy to, uh, start as well. :)

So far that 361 has been dropped a whole bunch of times, once in a river, and it still keeps ticking(well, once we pulled it apart and dried it out). No fun to break down a 361 or 2511, tho :(
But thats the price you pay for compactness and weight.
Here she is sitting atop an MS241 and an Echo CS390ESX:

Really good product.I am waiting for it like crazy. Why though every manufacturer send their new products in Europe first instead of sending them to the States?I think US market is bigger.Really curious.

The EU is actually economically larger than the EU/EEC is. The market even includes Russia in many cases. Something like 740 million people in all. Most products that are legal to sell in the EU are legal to sell on nearly the entire continent, including India, Turkey, Ukraine, and even northern/NW Africa etc.

Also bear in mind Yamabiko have a huge market in Asia they cater towards.

I looked into rear handle 2511 versus top handle and I don't think rear handle is even available in USA. I bought top handle for trail clearing and maintenance via hiking by foot and also by ATV and I love the little 2511. How light! I am age 65, so lightweight is good. I wish I would have had it three years ago when I bought my rear handle Stihl 200T. It is awesome, but it's like close to 3 lbs heavier than the little Echo, and 5.2 lbs versus almost 8 lbs is a big difference. Cheers for my first Echo saw, I have all Stihls and a Husky 346.

Now that you've upgraded to the lightweight echo, I can properly dispose of that heavy ol pig of a Stihl for you ;).

Hopefully they'll arrive while the british pound is still weak.

I'll also try and make a better vid of the 361 as well.

I watched the video in .25x speed, very good.

I wonder if the europe version has a cat in the muffler? I assume so.

Oh dear.
We haven't heard of a ship date yet here in the UK just yet. I'll keep you advised if I hear anything new.
