Just a cs-490. I think they are about the same saw. Put it in wood yesterday and was a little disappointed, think I may need to fatten up the high side some more. I'm sure it needs broken in yet too.

I put my compression tester on it and was only able to get around 100 psi out of it. Is this normal? P/C look brand new and no issues starting but seems on the low side.

The 490 is an econo 500P. I want to say the biggest differences are that the 490 has more plastic and somewhat detuned cylinder. May want to add a little 2 stroke oil to the cylinder and re-test. 100 psi really isn't bad though, probably average for a non-proline saw. I'll test my 500P and see what it does.

The engine on 490 is completely identical. ECHO did only put plastic front handle, plastic rear handle insert (instead of rubber), got rid of the plastic intake silencer and also there is no black coating on the muffler. And yeah the bar is regular. That's about it :) I hope I don't sound like a tech-nazi :D

I did a little reading up and it looks like the 490 is just the cheaper version of the 500p. The 501p, however, has a different cylinder and piston along with some other more professional features. Echo claims 20% more power as well. I did notice all three saws share the same base gasket. I wonder if the cylinders and pistons would interchange

Well working on my sons saw. He just got it yesterday. He kinda got screwed on the deal. Add said it just needed a carb clean. I was working and couldnt go or it would have stayed ther. Any how it looks to be a straight gass victom. It holds pressure. Couldnt check the vacuum as my mity vac needs a rehuild and wont hold vacuum but will pressure.
Anyhow i ran out of time for today. Anyone know how the intake boot comes off cylinder. Thers two bolts at cylinder that are blocked by the plastic housing thing.

And also anyone posibly know of a good used piston and cylinder or price on new piston and cylinder.

As mentioned before - with 501's introduction ECHO just took 500P and made it "farmer" saw with just a few parts. Base gasket is the same as it's the same crankcase. 501/490 have different crankshaft weights as the different pistons are counterweighted differently (501 has a ventilated one and 490 has a closed one). Theoretically just bolting on a different cylinder+piston could be done but the outcome with vibrations, port&ignition timing could make some weird results.

Good to know. I asked miller mod saws what he thought of the 501p, said it was fine, but that the dolkita 50cc is quite a bit stronger and smoother for what that’s worth.

Yes, my Dolly 5105 is in a different league than my 500P. True proline construction, better anti-vibe, gobs of low end torque. Pulls a 20 incher no problem at all.

Awesome!! I'll be interested to see what the muffler looks like. My 500P is completely hollow in stock form. No cat, not even, any baffles. Just a spark screen and deflector. Matter of fact, you could probably just bolt a 500P muffler on and be most of the way there.
They could have changed but on the 490 muffs I’ve done all you do is pull the muff, remove deflector, then remove restrictor tube. Then open exhaust port a bit and you’re done.
