The saw pictures is a 1001: The 1201 is a bigger Saw physically, & the clutch cover is larger.
Yes I know of the LARGE differences. I was trying to state that if s newer currently produced saw does not have a chain brake, then I kinda doubt that an older model (significantly different) saw would.

I know they were offered on the 900EVL & I assume there was a Canadian version of the 1001EVL with a CB.

That’d be something to see.

Thanks for the info.I would like to know when Echo discontinued the 900evl, the 1001vl, and when the 1100 started. Acre's site does not show this info.

All the 1001's I've seen had just the white plastic handguard common to Echoes of that vintage. Seems like Echo didn't equip all their USA market saws with brakes until after the new designs with the vertical cylinder came out. At first I thought the 1001 was a Canadian model because the metal handguard looked like a brake handle that was added on later to meet the requirement.

The 1001's never came equipped with a chain brake. Made from '76-80', they only sported the tube steel finger guard. It usually snapped off in short order.

Sawfun's looks like an early ('76?) model given the pentagonal shaped fuel and oil caps and the rear handle design. Later caps were round and the rear handle was redesigned to incorporate a hand guard and operator presence lever.

My dad's 1001 that he passed along to me a few years ago. He bought it new in '79. Presence lever was removed. You can see the remains of the snapped off guard still mounted to the handle support.

On a side-note. I picked up a relatively rare (for these parts) 452 with chain brake last week. Needs some new plumbing and it will be good to go. Pretty low miles.
