Barn find from last summer. Finally got around to wiping it down today. Fresh fuel and it was singing.

Just parted with my John Deere 80 last week. They are not the fastest but they don't slow much in a heavy cut.

For starters...some of the early 500vl were recalled. If your serial number matches, you could be in line for a brand spanking new one of similar displacement. Aside from the potential issues with the EVL ignitions, they are reliable and robust.

For the non-rushed cutting sessions, I like how the 70cc+ old Echos pull. Steady. I run 8-pin, 20" on my other 750, 702 and 701. Plenty of grunt. The 1001 with an 8-pin, 24" pulls the same speed buried or not. They are strong. The barn find 750 came with a 28". Fellow ran it that way in the softwood. Looking forward to trying it.

Looks like you passed along a nice example of a 750. Someone should enjoy that one.

I read that didn't know they were still offering it. I think mine is like 74000 or something. And friend I got it from got it brand new and set it aside day it stopped running when it got hot.

I'm quite sure your 500vl is past the serial numbers for a free-be saw, the early 500vl had a wrap handle without a handle brace, the one you have are good runners and would have points and not electronic ignition which on these saws is a good thing, the electronics tend to fail and are hard find and expensive to replace.

Well looks like its past the recall I just need a carb kit and fuel lines. Then find out why it runs for a while then dies. Hope its not the coil.

I have a 400EVL that I thought had a bad carburetor, turns out to be bad crank seals. I wonder how hard those are to change?

I have a 55v with weak coil, does that fall under same category?

55v or 55ev?, and what exactly are you asking?, does it qualify for a saw replacement?, or does it have a points ignition?
