Hi all,

I'm currently thinking of buying a saw in the 60cc range & the 3 contenders thus far are the 2 mentioned above & the 61cc Makita/Dolmar.

The Makita/Dolmar wins on price in my area, but I'm intrigued by the 2 above mentioned saws, as I own other Echo saws & they have been extremely reliable & very, very durable.

These 2 saws (the Echo & the Shindi) look to me to be the same saw, but in orange & red colours?

Our distributor in Australia has the Echo listed as 3KW & the Shindi at 3.32KW.

The list price for the Shindi is also $110 (Aust) over that for the Echo.

Is there really any difference, other than colour, between these 2 saws?

If I remember correctly, the shindaiwa is actually a red version of the echo cs-620 which is a higher output version of the 590. It also has a metal handle instead of plastic, unlimited coil instead of limited, rim sprocket instead of spur sprocket, and maybe a few other differences. Either way you can’t go wrong they are both great saws. If your one to modify, or you think that not getting the best one to begin with will eat at you, the shindaiwa May be the one to get. I have the cs-590 and love it though. Found a metal handle (Chinese 372xp) for $7 on eBay and cut and bent it to fit and opened up the muffler some and it has been a wonderful saw.

I have to agree with these guys. Even though I love my echo. I got it mainly off of love for my other echo products, and mostly its price. It is the best deal around here. I had looked for a dolmar but there are only like 2 dealers in Alabama and they aren’t close at all. I am sure I would love one of them too.

The 590 I just got to test likes being fat. Around 12.1K was my tune. Nothing wrong with them for $399 at all here.
But if a 6100 can be had cheaper and you have dealer support. I'm with GC

Hi Cut4fun,

The 6100 is about $50 cheaper than the 590 here.

I put up a similar question on the now defunct tree world forum 8 or so years ago when I was looking to buy a MS460 or MS660 & you replied with a suggestion for a 7901. I followed your advice & it worked out very well for me (thank you!).

So a 6100 it is! :)

Don't get too excited about the price lol! I'm in Australia, the Echo costs AUD$1,249 (USD$955) here. The 6100 comes in at AUD $1,199 (USD$915) :(

I'm not sure that the government can take the blame, the tax is 10%

Ours sales tax here is 10% but that still just put me at $439. And that’s after whatever tarriff is already imposed for being imported

I do wonder though if it would be cheaper to get someone in America to buy the saw and ship it to you? Both are still half or less than half price than what your paying now so shipping can’t be that much can it?

I bet @Mastermind could supply you with Ported 6100 shipped to Aussie land for not much more than that domestic price.
