Here's one I picked up the other day. Bought by a fellow who went into a stihl dealers sometime late 60's and said he wanted the best(most expensive) chainsaw they had. Naturally, they sold him this.
Of course,it was too much of a beast for him,so he kept it in the shed, started it up every now and then, and finally, his son sold it to me.
Came with a layer of dust that took a while to carefully clean, but underneath was an extremely clean and original saw, even down to the original plug. The piston has absolutely no carbon on top (looking through the plug hole, and i reckon its had hardly any run time.
wish they all turned up like this!

That's awesome. I do have a question, thought... the bar looks like a later font to me. Am I wrong? (Genuine curiosity)

It would be a 3001 mount bar. It's made in West Germany so is at least preceding the unification which took place in 1990.
That saw is an anti-vibe version so is not all that early of an 090. It is the early style anti-vibe though. The early 070/090's had no antivibe at all.

So it's possible that the bar dates correctly to the saw? (Not trying to poke at the OP, just curious.)

These saws probably didn't come from the factory with a bar. So depending on when it was sold, the dealer probably provided that. Seems like a short bar for that large of a saw. Not sure what difference it makes if it's the original bar or not. If someone wants a period correct bar, that's probably a lot easier to come by than a cherry condition saw. The guy may have bent the bar 10 years after he bought it and replaced it, not really any way of knowing. At any rate, it's a very nice saw.

Those are excellent points which I hadn't considered.
