Those rounds look suspiciously like Siberian Elm..

They were planted all across the western mid west as yard trees. “Shade trees” about 80 - 100 years ago cause they were resistant to the diseases that take out the red and American elm.

But they are some ugly sunsabiches..
Could be, Hedge. I did cut some red elm in 2017. Seems like the bark was even thinner than this. At least Siberian elm burns almost as hot and as nicely as red elm. (1) Cut in the spring (2) Dry it until fall and split (3) Burn in the winter and use the bark for kindling. Bark will fall off as you split.

Works every time. But, try to split it green? Forget it.

Yep..
It will lose its water way faster than most trees.

Splits too. Unlike American Elm.. it shreds.

9B962BF8-4558-4CBA-AAEB-807F957BD70A.jpeg These things are not easy to drill through . I was determined to use the 3 point spikes instead of buying the ones on the new saws. I ended up making a pilot hole with a carbide burr and followed up with the right size drill bits. Should be better than the crappy metal catcher.

FYI the bottom screw is too long after removing the metal catcher and bottoms out early. I stole one off a parts saw that was the same as the top inside screw. Works perfectly. Or one can just grind down the end of the existing screw to fit. Be prepared to cuss a few times spending time trying to get the circlip on the chaincatch rod, that holds the roller on. Lol

Would a simple cotter pin work?

There clip works well, fits inside the roller so a thrown chain doesn’t damage it. Just a royal pain to install. I’m sure there is some specialty stihl tool out there. I just used a screwdriver to pry the end open and pliers to push it on. Very tight fit. Lol

I believe that shortening the screw with the grinder is the way to go. Simple fix. I have made lots of shorter screws by grinding down longer ones. You can always shorten a longer machine screw, but I've never been able to lengthen one that's too short.

Little easier to get the clutch cover on and get things all lined up if you attach it to the inner dog rather than the outer.

You left the spikes on the saw while you work on them?
Or why do u put paper in the muff?

I definitely took the spikes off, would be difficult to do it on the saw (I did one at a time then installed to check where to drill). I put the paper in the muffler because I blew it off with compressed air.
