I ended up the “birdcage” completely today. Seems to run a little cooler and performance is impressive. I want to discuss air filters on these saws next. I’ve heard that the high top restricts them... but it is supposed to stay clean longer. I’ve never felt the standard setup on mine was inferior so far in the limited experience I’ve had, it stays fairly clean in dusty conditions. I do want to try a mesh filter and see if it gains more. I’m running a flocked right now.

I had to put grease around the base of the neck to keep fines out. It pulled them in bad

Grease is definitely a must on plastic to plastic sealing surfaces on the air filters in any saw i noticed imho. The problem seems to go away after you do that.
