I think when it gets here I'm going to install as is, break it in and get a feel for it. Then pull it later and and do some grinding. I'll print out a degree wheel and get some #s and tips from you fine sirs. Really want it to be all it can be. At least the best it can be with my limited resources and skills.
First thing... split the muff and gut it completely! Lol

Hey guys, I have a 79xx big bore on my makita, I'm looking for a 54mm piston. Does anyone know where I could find just the piston? Ive looked without much luck. The other option is using a different, 54mm if anyone has input on using a husky or stihl piston instead, that would be great. Thanks in advance.

I got one you can have. Just pay the shipping.

Ported another one

Fattened her up a bit today and she ran even stronger. These saws like fuel.

So, the 79xx piston and cylinder aka jug and slug finally made it's way from somewhere(Makita?) to Lake Havasu City Arizona to Anchor Point Alaska USPS. Going to pick it up in the morning.

Are there any gains to be had doing a muf mod(non cat 6401)? I've read mostly not.

Thinking I should run a couple tanks through it before I bolt it on the mill.

Any advice? Am I missing anything? Bigfoot Sasquatch stories?

Split and gut the muffler, open the stock muffler outlet as much as You can - my stock PS-7900 seems to like it.

I think general consensus is to run a richer mixture for break in and to allow for heat cycles with cool down time.
That been said, I'd break her in bucking some logs before torturing her with milling.

Good to know it responds to some de-restriction(is that even a word?).
I'll definitely run it a bit fat for a while. "Heat cycles". Good call! Something I hadn't thought of!

Yeah, that milling certainly puts a load on a saw. My 039 was running hard today making lumber. Lol! Less than ideal to say the least.
