Anyone know if the 7901 starter side decals are still available? Maybe I should just leave the 6401 decals on after the 79xx p&c swap and mess with the locals? Alaska appears to be Stihl country, generally speaking.

Makita DCS7901 decals are still available in Europe.

Leave the 6401 decal in place and kick some 462's butt! ;)

Im the only one that thinks these dogs are a little bit too much for a 64cc saw?
I too think the US Style 2 spikes are a little too big, they are good for a 36" B&C setup though.

I personally like the US Style 1/Star Trek Klingon spikes the most.
For the 64xx the small European spikes are a good size.

I did the same mods that I did to my 6421 except this one has the zama carb and low top filter setup. Gutted the muffler, modded the carb and some timing advance. Squish is already perfect on these stock (this one was .024 and mine was .020). I can’t stand the large dogs personally for running a bar under 32”. I run the Star Trek ones on my two personal 6421 and 7900.

I noticed that these two 6421 have the slab side slug since they have the top mount decomp according to the ipl. Although I did not remove the cylinders to check that. I have a 6400 here with a windowed old style piston, interested to see if it runs worse or the same. I don’t see how a windowed piston would be beneficial on a open port cylinder, seems like they are designed more for a wall fed closed port transfer setup like a 660?

Anyone know if the bearing on the right is a oem rod bearing or not? One on left is oem that I’ve seen in 3-4 of these saws. Never seen the one on the right until now in this 6400 I took apart. Looks incorrect to me and more like a clutch bearing.238E1395-A234-4686-AF2F-D0552188E652.jpeg

Not that I've seen. I think it's AM. The dolmars have the copper colored one

Miss Daisy is running good again. I modded her and seems like she took well. It’s a red top 6400 with a windowed piston. The wood got bigger and I’m cutting into a few knots so my comparison test log with the other saws isn’t fair anymore now lol.

@huskihl you’ve seen a lot of these saws, what piston do you think you prefer in them? Windowed or the two non windowed ones? I did notice the windowed piston had a center mounted pin like a 372 if that’s a advantage for porters?

All the newer pistons have the ring over on the right.

In a stock saw, I wouldn't care which one I had. Ported, I'd rather have the slab sided one since the skirts are wider. Ring end placement doesn't mean much to me as I don't move the uppers enough for it to be in the way. That being said, if it were in the center, I'd probably stretch the uppers a little more just for science

Runs nice...I have a newer Dolmar 6400. Only a handful of tanks on her. Star Trek dawgs, sleep, etc. She's pretty minty. Thought about turning her into a red top 7900 (ported of course). I believe with the offerings now I can get a cylinder with decomp that matches the red top plastics and a 7910 piston? Something about the red top I like. Maybe I keep black top who knows. I love this chassis saw. I know what they're capable of I have a minty Miller Mod ported EA64/7910 with only a few tanks thru it. It's a beast. Thought about selling that and converting the Dolmar. You know, cause it says Dolmar instead of Makita haha. Whatcha running for a Zama?

I’d keep em both :)!! Getting hard to find a clean older one sir. I had a c3m with the D spline on both 6400/6421 that I thinned the shafts and stuff to. My personal 64 I put a older walbro hd6 carb on (came on 371xp). I did notice differences in C3m carbs depending on year and what saw they came on. The older ones had normal adjustable slotted screws with springs and the newer ones have a D spline for the H jet. There are different numbers I noticed too on the newer ones, c3m 534 and the other was 6... something I forgot lol. Not sure if they are different jetting wise.

I think when it gets here I'm going to install as is, break it in and get a feel for it. Then pull it later and and do some grinding. I'll print out a degree wheel and get some #s and tips from you fine sirs. Really want it to be all it can be. At least the best it can be with my limited resources and skills.
