@mdavlee I know you’ve built a 7900 or two with a 046 piston. Just curious... is it something worthwhile doing or was it a experiment with what was on hand? Does it have more grunt or more rpm that way? I understand if you’d like to keep it to yourself.

It works pretty good depending on the use. Jack Chin has one I built like that next time you get up with him ask to run it. I know @Hedgerow runs real well with that piston and rwj. I’ve run it with a 9 pin and 28” full comp cutting hardwood. I never got a 50mm one done. Alan and Matt messes with one some but it didn’t work out as good for some reason.

I'm not Mike, but I'll help. The skirts on most dolmar pistons are narrow. Something like 58% bore width on at least one model sticks in my head. An 046 piston skirt is a little wider. And about .050" more compression height.
The wider the exhaust port, the easier it is for the spent charge to get out. Translates to more hp.

I’ll have to ask Jack about that saw next time I see him. Did you have to run a spacer to make room for the taller piston or just took it out of the combustion chamber?

There’s the link @SOS Ridgerider posted. I still have it open with a couple in a cart ready to go. Apparently it is the original 7901 cylinder with the updated 7910 piston? If I remember/read correctly.

100 vs 150 is a whole different decision to make than 100 vs 220.

Went to purchase this kit today....$96 shipping to Alaska! Dang it! Guess they don't use USPS flat rate boxes(or doesn't fit). Looks like I might be going with the HL supply NWT bbk kit and a caber ring. Maybe? Hell idk. Anyone use the NWT bbk kit?
