Bought my 72” for the occasional wide slab I run into also. I’ve used it maybe 3-4 times, I’m working on a twin powerhead setup. Might be a pair of 064/066’s even the single 090 works pretty hard but has gotten it done for now. I liked the 48” mill much better if nothing else Bruin needs to pull less chain ect. I use all .404 because it seems to homosexual up to nails and stuff better.

Been there a time or two. I'm going the other way with GB thinner kerf chain. Makes the length of the slice much faster and can sharpen as a square chiselIMG_20180611_223759.jpg from the physical form. Once squared up speed should increase til metal tears out teeth. Then I may switch to the 3/8 x 063 square with the original obtuse angle of cutters. If my fortune is steady only 1/4 of the logs have metal in the future as it's been in the past

Any word on those west coast skinny long bars?
In the spring they were sposed to be in mid-june. Not in yet, when I talked to Greg a couple weeks ago I choose to just check the site once or twice a week. I like the ones I have max 30"

No bars available yet from left coast in LP.

I'm going to try 325 and LP chain on the mill. The goal is to make a smoother narrower cut than round off the roll 404.

Square file will not be used this time. My question is should I build these on a certain bar length and why?

I have new and used sprocket tips for ES, 3/8 050. Rims that will run LP on medium six spline drums. I have 404 7p rims to cut if needed for the 1122 drum. Worried about chain stretch.
Can a 325 rims be had to fit an 1122 drum?
Or a drum swap to make that happen?
I have a new 325 ES sprocket nose. I would use 325 050 chain on it. If the rim can't be had or adapted to the 1122 drum the saw size goes down and I will be limited to less power. Not a deal breaker but the oil delivery becomes an issue on bars over 24" with a stock 046 pump.

Nup but will be keen to see how well it lasts for you. I tried to go longer with picco using skip but found it dulled too quickly. Maybe duro whilst not lightening fast, might last longer

Got a very large, very very dead grey box fork to mill, currently got 59" with .404

For the guys in US, think 4' wide hardened concrete in the shape of a tree fork
If you could find BobL over in Perth he wood show you how he's done it for many years. Or you might check over at Another Site in milling 101 under sharpening milling chains.

Need to do more testing on the 404H chipper full comp.
I have figured out that the less hook and a shallow cut while grinding cured my aggressive drags @0.030 on the mill. Trying the next chain with 0.040 on the drags. These chains come to me with 0.045 drags factory and 35* top face angle. I use them as is for dirty nasty firewood. Some won't even cut if they were already used a little.
Another one sharpened like good round regular chain with 0.040 drags is mean. It clears chips fast with no shelf on the cutter. It is too aggressive for chainsaw milling. That is 25* cutters with 0.030 drags. Most of the sharpened chains are down to an 18-20* face angle now. One is set 15* face and 0.025 drags. Now problems with oil using 23" of the 28" bar on the mill now with a slight mod on the regular 1122 pump.

Been wanting to run the long bar but no time to set up the acc oil feed or use it. That is going to run 404H chipper full skip to start out. Those have not been gone over yet. Need a machine on hand to do those big logs.

Not time to mess with the 3/8 0.050 chain till the bar gets redone. Needs the rails pinched, a fresh loop and axillary oil feeder.
