My 10 mm 044 was my only saw for 18 years. Then it got pinched in the cut and a tree ate it. All the shops told me it was not worth repairing. So I bought a 441, then figured out how to repair the 044 myself (no AM tank holders back then, cost about $150, plus a handle, etc., but it still runs today! Then I came to the web site, then ….

My 029 that was 23 years old and run on Stihl orange bottle oil still had all the machine marks on the piston and nor a single mark on the clamshell jug. Saw ran good. Only 1 I had. I just sold it last year. Guy loves it. Lol. Go figure.

I run alot of Ms 250s, different but same..they keep on tickin.

I dont let anyone touch my 261 or 201 when I take them, the guys I've worked with dont discriminate..they beat the hell out of everything.

Ever try 404 on the big one?
I have not, I have no bar & chain in .404".

My main B&C's are all in 3/8" 20", that's no challenge for the PS-7900 so I go much more aggressive on the chain (which is not compensation for a poor edge, I get my chains fairly sharp).
I am increasingly considering to source a .404" B&C setup for my big girl!

My issue is I don't cut as much wood as I'd like to, my own firewood requirements can be met within two weekends.

I wouldn’t try .404 on a 70cc saw with a 36” bar. That’s really for a 661/395xp or any of the stronger 90cc saws imho. Takes power to pull and oil it well. Smallest saw I tried 36” .404 on was a ported 385. It did suprisingly well, but you could tell it was kind of taxing the saw.

In my case, I'm considering .404" just for a main "short" B&C setup 20-24".
Around here a 20" B&C setup takes care of about 90% of all firewood logs being sold.

I'd like to try .404" just for the fact that it's praised to hold a better edge bucking dirt infested wood.
Around here firewood logs get dragged out of the woods to a clearance accessible to transport trucks, quite often that leaves them literally packed in dirt/mud.

Is non-ethanol fuel common or available in Europe?

In Germany & Austria non-ethanol fuel seems hard to find on freeways. I always choose higher octane "racing" fuel just to avoid ethanol when I travel to Switzerland. I don't know how it looks like within the cities or villages regarding non-ethanol fuel.

In Switzerland non-ethanol fuel is not a issue, at least not where I tend to visit.

I have yet to encounter ethanol fuel in Croatia, and for now I'm quite glad for that since I drive up to two months on one full tank of fuel.

Why are You asking?
You planning to import some? ;)

My 3 saw plan is a stihl 011avt or homie super 2 or poulan 2000 or modded poulan 3314 for the small saw. Then for the medium would have a 50 - 60cc saw like modded husky 350 jonny 625 630 or echo 452. Then big saw would be a craftsman 4.3A/VL aka Echo701/702 i think with a 28" or jonny 670 with a 32" both of those are noodle machines. The jonny has one of those lrb 50 or 52 mm fit all kits on it. It has a very wide and low ex. low trans with high wide intake. Tons of torque but revs top out at 12000

Just curious what was available there. Also, have you ever visited the Gransfor Bruks axe shop in Switzerland?

Generally here in Croatia we have EuroSuper95 (unleaded 95 octane, should be ethanol free).
To my understanding no ethanol yet, but that will change as the government starts implementing Europe Union regulations.
It's not easy to find higher octane fuel here.
Street racers pay high prices to get their hands on it for race events.

Nope, I didn't even know Bruks is Swiss, I thought it's Scandinavian - one learns something new every day.
