So whaddya use to adapt that Summit wheel to a chainsaw crank?
I turned them out on a lathe .I used a compass wheel transfer made of mylar from McMaster -Carr,counter clockwise rotation mounted on a aluminum plate,360 degree .Two fender washers ,one on each side . I've made several ,sent one to Rocky J in Florida . I can't remember if they are 8" or 9" .
As far as a compass you can find one on the internet and print it out they just aren't as robust as the mylar ones.

I don't understand what is holding the wheel onto the crank. There must be some kind of extending piece between it and the crank end proper, since is rotating in a plane further out than the end of the bar studs....or so it seems to me.

Check this out... If I could do it again and only have one degree wheel, I would buy a 11" over a 9" for more accurate readings. This Comp cams 9" was like $15 off fleabay, the Chuck was like $14 and the grade 5 hardware was like $3. All in all well worth it, you'll never own a stock saw again.
