VPN services when used properly can be very beneficial for regular folks like us. But then they get abused and chit like this happens. Makes it hard to really block a person's access to a site for good.

It might be possible, depending on the forum software to open multiple browsers .I know on one forum I won't mention if you did that it would index the online viewers numbers by factors of up to ten each time it was done .However if one browser were closed it only showed one leaving .
It was pointed out to me by another member .I thought to myself what a clever method to bill sponsors by online traffic numbers .Sometimes things are not what they might appear .

During sign up you need to set up restrictions and spammer back ground checks. That way they dont even get through to final stage of sign ups and is turned away automatically. If username, IP or email is in the system.

Username,ip and email wont protect you.
You can switch IPs via VPN in a couple of seconds.
Automatic email creation is no big deal und automatic changing of usernames is must for such bots.

Give new members a post/tread limit and everything will be fine.
Who need to open 5 new threads in an hour?
