Ok, so I bought this rechromed cylinder with fitted oversize piston for one of my old Homelite saws. At first, I figured the issue is below the rings so I didn't think much of it. However, the more I look at it the more convinced I am that this will be a problem. Looking for some expert advice on this.

Is there any backwoods fixes that would be possible to salvage this, or is it a lesson learned the hard way? Also, the skirt is on the verge of being a touch short by spec. Not willing to return this to the source, and not telling where I bought it. It is an older stock I stumbled upon, and was priced very reasonable because of the skirt being a touch shorter than ideal. A couple builders knew of this exact set, and said it should work well even with the short shirt.

Thanks,

If it were me, I would take a diamond ball stone in my Dremel and blend that area in around the casting flaw (or whatever it is) and then
do some hand-sanding in that area with some 220 and 400 grit Carborundum type sand paper.

Is there some loss of Chrome between the exhaust port and transfer port to the left in the picture of the cylinder, or is that a trick of the light?

I believe it is a trick of the light. There is a little chrome lost in the intake ports but it is diwn in the cut where it over plated. It definitely needs some sanding to clean up more.

If they chromed it, they likely honed it. If they honed it, then it has already been sanded and blended, and is good to go.

I’d do what JJ said, diamond ball the edges, little hand sand, then scotchbrite the whole thing.

I’d hit all the port edges. They are rough as well.

Nutball has a good point, it’s been honed. But a little time as an insurance policy won’t hurt.
